Dog Loves To Hug Strangers On The Street

Sometimes you just need a hug. And Louboutina the dog will give you one.

She’s a 5 year-old Golden Retriever who lives in New York. Loubie, as she’s know, has made a bit of a name for herself for hugging strangers on the city streets. She even has her own Instagram page, @louboutinanyc, which has 18,000 followers.

Her owner, Cesar Fernandez-Chavez, said Loubie’s hugs provide “healing on the go.”

“She is like a walking therapist, offering counseling on the streets of NYC,” he told

Loubie was a birthday gift for Fernandez-Chavez from his best friend, Daphne. Daphne happens to love designer Christian Louboutin shoes, so Fernandez-Chavez landed on the name Louboutina for his puppy.

The hugging kind of evolved naturally, Fernandez-Chavez said. I started with Louboutina “holding hands” with him on walks. She would basically sit on her hind legs and reach her paw out to be held.

“It was a week before Valentine’s in 2014, and that become a regular thing on every walk,” he said.

Then about two years ago, she hugged him.

“Instead of holding hands, one day out of blue she jumped to grab my two legs with a very strong grip,” he said.

She soon started hugging others she met on her walks.

“She pretty much picks someone from the crowd,” Fernandez-Chavez said.

He can tell when Loubie wants to hug someone, because she will go and sit next to them.

“I know that person is the chosen one and she will lift up her body to hug that person,” he told Petcha.

And they love it.

“People always have a joyful reaction, even just by looking at her hugging me,” Cesar Fernandez-Chavez said.

It’s no small feat to grab New Yorkers’ attention on the city streets, but Loubie has a knack for it.

“Louboutina manages to get the attention of people with her funny postures and personality, so people always stop to pet her,” Fernandez-Chavez said. “Now, some already know who she is and recognize her and they come to her right away.”

Who could resist her? Just look at that face.

“As you can see in her pictures, she is a very happy pup and she knows she is giving out a lot of love when she walks,” Fernandez-Chavez said.

Forget stopping to smell the roses. Sometimes you need to stop and let a dog hug you. Especially if that dog is Louboutina.
